These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Omniscient AI Fact Checker Chrome Extension and associated web platform at omniscient.news ("the Service"), operated by Omniscient AI · MSJ News · Tokenised News ("we", "us", or "our").

By installing the extension or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please uninstall the extension and discontinue use.

1. Description of Service

Omniscient AI Fact Checker is a Chrome browser extension and web platform that analyses text content by sending it to three AI models (OpenAI ChatGPT, Perplexity AI, and Google Gemini) and returning fact-check verdicts with web-sourced citations. The Service includes:

Selected Text checks (1 credit per check)
Full Page Analysis (3 credits per analysis)
Image-to-text fact-checking via AI vision
A credit-based system for purchasing analysis capacity
A Pro subscription tier (when available)
A fact-check history linked to your account

2. Account Registration

To use the Service, you must sign in with a Google account or register with an email and password. By signing in with Google, you authorise us to receive your name, email address, and profile picture for the purpose of creating and identifying your account.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use.

3. Credits and Payments

The Service operates on a credit system:

Free Credits: New accounts receive free credits upon first sign-in. These credits do not expire.
Purchased Credits: Additional credits may be purchased. Payments are processed securely through our payment providers.
Credit Usage: 1 credit is consumed per Selected Text check; 3 credits per Full Page Analysis.
Credit Expiry: Purchased credits do not expire while your account remains active.

    Payment Processing: Payments are handled by third-party processors. We do not collect, store, or process your card numbers, CVV codes, or banking credentials directly. All financial transactions are subject to the payment processor's terms and security standards.
  

4. Pro Subscription

Where a Pro subscription tier is offered, it provides unlimited or enhanced access to the Service for a defined period (monthly or annual). Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date. Cancellation stops future renewals; the subscription remains active until the end of the current paid period.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must not:

Use the Service to analyse content that is illegal, defamatory, or violates third-party rights
Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the Service
Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to consume credits or access the API without authorisation
Share, sell, or transfer your account or credits to another person
Misrepresent the Service's outputs as official journalistic or legal verdicts

6. AI Outputs and Accuracy

    Important: Fact-check verdicts are generated by third-party AI models and are for informational purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional journalism, legal advice, or editorial fact-checking. We make no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose.
  

AI models can make mistakes. Always verify important claims through primary sources before acting on or sharing any verdict produced by the Service.

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its interface, branding, and underlying code, is owned and operated by Omniscient AI · MSJ News · Tokenised News. The AI models used are the intellectual property of their respective providers. You retain ownership of any content you submit for analysis.

8. Third-Party AI Providers

The Service relies on the following third-party AI providers:

OpenAI (ChatGPT GPT-4o) — Usage Policies
Perplexity AI (Sonar Pro) — Terms of Service
Google Gemini (2.5 Flash) — Google Terms of Service

We are not responsible for the outputs, availability, or accuracy of these third-party providers.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Omniscient AI · MSJ News · Tokenised News shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including reliance on AI-generated verdicts, loss of data, or service interruptions.

Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the total amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Service Availability

We aim to provide continuous availability but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or third-party AI provider outages.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms or engage in fraudulent activity. Unused credits may be forfeited in cases of breach.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation before resorting to formal proceedings.
