'LLM-friendly' writing is sometimes presented as a compromise with journalistic quality. It is the opposite: the structural choices that make writing more retrievable by AI systems โ€” specific facts, clear definitions, direct answers, FAQ sections โ€” are the same choices that make writing more useful for human readers. LLM-friendly writing is simply good writing with explicit structure.

The Five Elements of LLM-Friendly Writing

1. Direct answers first. State the main point in the first paragraph without building to it. 2. Named definitions. Define every key concept explicitly ("AI hallucination is...") โ€” these definitions are the most frequently cited passages. 3. Specific evidence. Use numbers, named studies, and quoted experts rather than vague references ("research shows"). 4. Self-contained paragraphs. Each paragraph should make sense independently. 5. FAQ sections. End with 3โ€“5 direct question-answer pairs โ€” the highest-yield LLMO element. These five elements add no time to writing; they require only intentional structure.
